Carl Paladino Stays On Message

Far be it for me to question Carl Paladino's campaign tactics, captured here by Azi Paybarah, but... let's say I'm running a gubernatorial campaign in New York at the height (we hope) of an epic recession. There are three weeks left before voters go the polls. I have a candidate who's a successful businessman -- a nice resume item! -- but who also has been caught forwarding pornographic e-mails, and is raising a child that he fathered out of wedlock. I want to focus him on the unemployment rate and the weaknesses of Andrew Cuomo. Do I let him give a speech about "pandering to the pornographers and the perverts" (emphasis on the "verts," for some reason) and attacking his opponent for the sin of marching in a gay pride parade? No, I probably nix that.

*This is sarcasm.
